Demand for Managed Visual Collaboration Services on the Rise: Research
January 26, 2010
By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor
While the market for visual collaboration services was once strained by resource and management restrictions, the market for these services is increasing as new technologies make managed services possible.
According to the latest research from Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert), “a perfect storm of technological, economic, and environmental developments has brought visual collaboration to the forefront again.”
The report, “World Visual Collaboration Managed Services Markets,” the market, which earned $82.7 million in revenues in 2008, will hit $938.8 million by 2015.
The availability of managed services has removed concerns around the difficulty of deployment and the need for extensive training of the services. Instead, access to these collaboration tools is now available at the click of a button.
According to Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Iwona Petruczynik, as more companies look to reduce travel, visual collaborations have also become a viable option.
'This can create significant cuts in business costs and help improve productivity levels; employees can conduct their businesses without the need to meet face-to-face with their clients or partners. New models offered by service providers that do not require up-front capital expenditure by customers are also adding to the widespread adoption of visual collaboration services globally,' Petruczynik said.
The research also advises vendors that in order to capitalize on this market opportunity, it is vital to know customer applications and requirements and to develop products to fulfill their needs.

- The Advantages of Using SIP Trunks over a PRI from the Phone Company: A Primary Rate Interface (PRI) is the basic connection used by phone companies that allow multiple voice and data paths to share a common circuit. The PRI consists of 23 B channels, which carry voice and data, and 1 D channel, which carries signaling data for the other 23 channels. This ratio is fixed and channels must be added in multiples of 23 should you need to add more. Each PRI requires data communication hardware on either end.
- VoIP and Business Continuity: An organization's communication system is the most important aspect of any business continuity plan. Without an effective method for people to communicate with one other, all other activities become moot.
- What is a SIP trunk?: A SIP trunk is a data connection that utilizes Session Initiated Protocol (SIP) and carries voice over IP (VoIP) traffic. The SIP trunk defines the connection between two voice switches and can carry multiple VoIP calls simultaneously. The trunk is then divided into logical pathways, called channels. Each channel carries one voice conversation.
