Business VoIP Comes to the Rescue During the Holidays

The holidays are an interesting time for businesses, and can generate frenzy and an explosion of business in sectors like retail and advertising. For many companies, though, holiday seasons mean well earned time off for workers, which presents some interesting challenges on the customer-facing front. Business VoIP solutions can do some of the heavy lifting during these off times, and are proving to be a valuable tool for businesses of all sizes.



A business VoIP solution can make the difference between going dark at the holidays and staying on the grid, according to a recent blog post from Votacall. The company specializes in cloud-based voice offerings and VoIP-based business communication systems, and outlined three main ways business VoIP can help businesses handle call volume and customer-facing functionality during the holidays.

Business VoIP offerings typically include customized auto-attendant capabilities, a major asset during any type of closure. That means organizations may customize their opening and closing times and share other important details and announcements with customers during the holiday season. This can include information about changes to shipping, reduced customer service and support on particular days and other changes and deviations from normal business operations.

Time of day rules are another important component of business VoIP solutions, enabling businesses to easily set and change the rules governing how incoming calls are handled and routed during specific time periods. This feature is particularly useful for partial day openings and closings during a holiday period, as well as if only partial staff will be on hand to receive calls. Incoming calls may also be routed to specific voicemail boxes or off premises to a call center or remote workers as necessary.

Along the same lines, business VoIP offerings are ideal for enabling employees to work from home, a great benefit during the holiday seasons. This is especially useful for workers with school-aged children who will be home for a day or even a few days while businesses remain open. By enabling employees to work remotely, business VoIP systems help business operations to continue smoothly during an otherwise disruptive and unusual period. Workers can access systems at home via their computers or other personal devices and remain productive during the holidays by using business VoIP.

The holidays don’t have to cause disruption to business operations or inconvenience customers. By taking advantage of business VoIP solutions, organizations of all sizes can keep business running smoothly while simultaneously accommodating changes to workflow and workers’ schedules – a win-win all around.
