Hospitality Industry Checking Out VoIP
With all the talk about saving money for businesses by installing VoIP phone systems, one area that hasn’t been mentioned all that much is the hotel and hospitality industry. Yet by its very nature, this is one industry that can benefit greatly from not only the cost savings VoIP brings, but also the versatility and functionality.
In a recent blog post, tech writer John Terra addressed some of the positive points that VoIP can bring to hotels, especially in Las Vegas, where it appears the technology is being embraced with open arms.
“The hospitality industry is not immune to VoIP’s charms, lured by lower costs and greater functionality,” Terra said. “It’s getting to the point that, in an effort to get more warm bodies into hotel rooms and entertainment venues such as casinos, VoIP is becoming a vital component for success.”
Indeed, since a big selling point at hotels is providing everything a guest could want, even before they know they want it, VoIP fits the bill.
“Since hotels are all about providing their guests with every possible amenity they can, savvy, competitive hotel chains are equipping guest rooms with IP telephones,” Terra said. “When you take into consideration a place like Las Vegas, where hospitality entrepreneurs are constantly building new or remodeling existing hotels, and the sheer amount of money VoIP can save, you can see how such a system makes good economic sense.”
And it’s not just the cost-savings that are luring hoteliers. There is also a marketing angle to consider.
“VoIP phones feature small display screens that a hotel can use to run advertisements, ideally for local businesses that guests may wish to take advantage of,” Terra observed. “This results in a convenience for guests who may not know where local services and hotspots are, and a boost for the local business economy.”
Add in the functionality that VoIP provides, easy system upgrades and features like conferencing and bridging, and VoIP becomes the natural choice. In an era where all businesses are looking for a competitive and financial edge, VoIP offers all that and more.
