FairPoint's Closing Sale to Blackfoot Further Strengthens the Telecommunications Space
In recent telecommunications news, FairPoint Communications, Inc. recently sold the capital stock of its Idaho-based operations to Missoula, Montana-based Blackfoot Telecommunications Group, an organization that delivers telecommunications services to more than 20,000 customers in throughout Montana and Idaho, including voice, data and IT services.
This new sale was closed for approximately $30 million in gross cash proceeds and has even allowed 11 FairPoint employees based in Idaho to join the Blackfoot organization.
FairPoint provides telecommunication services across 18 states, including its “fiber-to-the-towers” project that seeks to boost broadband access in the company’s Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine operating areas.
While the company declared bankruptcy back in October 2009, it emerged two years later in January, 2011 with new contracts, customers and a new strategy that so far seems to be working well. Ethernet mobile backhaul is just one of these new projects, but it is a critical one, since mobile backhaul can account for a majority of the cost of provisioning high-speed mobile services.
The company further revealed that it is investing heavily in Ethernet mobile backhaul, which is expected to grow by nearly 40 percent over the next year.
